Daily Devotional #1,753

The army of Israel was facing the army of the Philistines. The Philistines had a giant of a man who came out  each day and taunted the Israelites with the challenge for one of them to come out and fight him and if that man  won, the Philistines would give up to the Israelites. For over a month he cried out his challenge to the army of  God…and no one responded…except in fear. And then a young man, really not much more than a boy, was so  incensed that this giant would cow the representatives of the God of the Bible, he volunteered to go and fight  this man who stood in the neighborhood of nine feet tall. The king, Saul, told him that there was no way he  could contend with this giant. And David replied “The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and
the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!” Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said. “And may  the LORD be with you!” David started across the valley to the Philistine army and picked up 5 smooth stones  and carried only his shepherd’s staff and a sling. He was taunted by the giant but David replied to the  Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of  Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the LORD will conquer you,  and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild  animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!” Goliath began to walk towards David,  but David ran out to engage him. He took a stone and with his sling, hit Goliath in the forehead and the giant  fell to the ground. And David continued running toward him and pulled out Goliath’s sword out and killed him  and cut off his head. Game over! David had confidence that the God he served and loved would win the day.  And when the danger came, he did not retreat, he did not wait…he ran to engage the enemy. Remember that the  same faith that David had in God is the faith that you can have in him today. And today, you may face a giant.  It could be physical, spiritual or even emotional…and you can retreat from the challenge facing you, wait for it  to come for you…or you can trust God and go forward and meet it. David had no armor, no sword, no shield,  no spear. But he had the stone…and the God of the stone. When you have this Jesus of the Bible you are  carrying around with the that “living stone” …the Son of God with you, who will fight for you. Your battle,  whatever it is today, is the Lord’s battle…and he will give you the ultimate victory. Here’s our Bible verse for  today…

1Samuel 17:47 And everyone assembled here will know that the LORD rescues his people, but not with sword  and spear. This is the LORD’s battle, and he will give you to us!”

1 Samuel 17:37 NLT The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from  this Philistine!” Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead,” he said. “And may the LORD be with you!”
Remember I’m praying for you!
