Maybe you’ve heard it before…Nothing is a good as it looks or as bad as it seems. How many times have we made a purchase and knew that it was just perfect. We dreamed about using or wearing it. And yet when we got it home…it didn’t look as wonderful as it did in the store, or now as good as it looked online. How about the other? We run into a situation where it just seems like a total disaster…but then we take a deep breath and take some time and maybe this isn’t the disaster or horrible disappointment we first thought. We have to remember that we look at things differently from God, whom the Bible claims is our creator and sustainer. In the Bible it says “For we live by believing and not by seeing.” But we all know that seeing is believing, right? Not so…because we can take any video, picture or media and manipulate it to look like we want it. Yeah, but we are talking about really seeing, like with our own eyes. I had an incident with one of my eyes that thankfully didn’t turn out to be as dangerous as doctors saw it as. Afterwards, the eye doctor showed me a small stretch of scaring on my retina. He said “Don’t worry about this. You won’t even be able to see it. Your brain will filter out that scar and you’ll never see what I can see in your eye.” So, who or what do we trust? Well, I’m going with a verse that I say probably every day…as a reminder to me what God has promised. In Psalm 56:3, the writer, King David of Israel wrote “But when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.” Remember that God sees the big picture, you and I see things partial and incomplete. One day the promise is that we will indeed get to look back and see everything completely and perfectly. But for now…we are called to live by faith. And that’s hard, but not everything you hear, see, or imagine is real. And God is a big God which means that whatever you are dealing with today, it just may not be as good as it looks or as bad as it seems. But he knows and he will always be there to help you as you trust in him. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Corinthians 13:12 NLT Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely.
Remember I’m praying for you!
