Daily Devotional #1,777

A guy who talked about this Jesus of the Bible on a lot of college campuses said that there is one question that  he asks those who claim that they are not Christians. He said I ask them “If Christianity was true, would you  become a Christian?” He said that he has asked a number of atheists (those who claim there is no God) that  question “If Christianity was true, would you become a Christian?” and many have said publicly… “No”. He  pointed out that is not a rational answer. And what it demonstrates is that the issue of unbelief is not a head  problem…it is really a heart problem. What that means is that many people are not on a quest for truth…they  are on a quest for happiness. The Apostle Paul said in the first part of his letter to the Roman church that  creation is evidence enough to know of God. He went on to say that people knew God, but wouldn’t worship  him or give him thanks. The reason is that people want what they want. They want to do what they want to do.  And God…he is asking us to follow him with our hearts and our lives. So, the argument that there isn’t enough  evidence to believe in God may actually be there isn’t enough evidence to believe that a life in Christ is worth  living. So, belief does have some head knowledge involved, but the key issue is the heart. It may be more of  “I just want to do my life, my way. And if I acknowledge that there is a God and it is the God of the Bible, I  will be compelled to worship him and serve him…and I will not do that.” So, guard your heart…that is the key.  And that’s why the greatest command starts with “Love the Lord your God with all your heart…” That’s what  he is asking for…your heart. Surrender that to him and trust him for forgiveness and purpose and meaning in  your life. And ask God to open the hearts of the people who don’t know and follow him…to simply see him  and his love and kindness and long to be with him and follow him from here to eternity. Here’s our Bible verse  for today…

Romans 10:9-10 NLT If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him  from the dead, you will be saved. (10) For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God,  and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
