James Harrison died last month in Australia. From the time he was 18 until he turned 81, he donated blood 1,173 times. Harrison’s blood plasma contained a rare antibody called “Anti-D” that was used to produce a medication that protected unborn and newborn children from a rare and deadly disease where a mother’s immune system attacks a baby’s red blood cells. His blood plasma produced 3 million doses of the medication that saved the lives of nearly 2.4 million babies. He gave his blood so that nearly 2 ½ million babies would live. I couldn’t help but jump from that story to the story of Christ dying on the cross for each person, that we might be saved too, and given life by the blood of Christ for us. Like those babies, born and preborn, just at the right time they were made well by the blood that was offered for them. They were helpless and it took the love of one man to offer himself to save them. And so, Christ does the same for us. We are so loved by God that Jesus offered his blood for us to be saved while we were still sinners. And we are made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ that takes us from certain death and gives us life. James Harrison was a wonderful man who sacrificed so much so that so many would live because of his willingness to give his blood. But untold numbers more will live, now and forever because of the blood of Christ given for us to kill the effects of sin and bring us life now and life eternal. We have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ and he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Romans 5:6-9 NLT When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. (7) Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. (8) But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (9) And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation.
Remember I’m praying for you!
