I finished a model airplane last night. I had worked on it off and on for literally years now. It was one that my Mom had given me for Christmas one year and she has been gone for well over 2 years now. I love this kit, but there were other things that were more pressing but recently I decided that it was just time to finish it. I remember that when I first opened the box, it was just a collection of white plastic pieces that were waiting to be put together. I put the final touches on it and stepped back and looked at this plane and I loved it. I’m not a skilled modeler, but it was good looking to me. There was glueing, sanding, filling with putty, painting and then finally adding the decals that give it that semblance of a real aircraft. I thought about all that it took to go from the box of pieces to the finished product. As I looked at my miniature aircraft, I couldn’t help but think of what God does in our lives. We look at who we are or where we are, what we dream of and we sometimes wonder what in the world is God doing and why is it taking him so much time! I bet there are times when we all feel like things are maybe in disarray or incomplete or just taking so long to come some end…maybe an end that we are dreaming about. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Roman church and said that “If we look forward to something we don’t yet have we must wait patiently and confidently.” (Romans 8:25) But then he tells us what God is doing. That all the seeming dead ends and all the waiting and sometimes all the pain actually leads somewhere. He says that we know…that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose. If you feel yourself in the waiting, unfinished kind of place in your life, remember that God is assembling all those things that you have gone through and that you are waiting for…and works them for the good…of those who truly love God and are walking with him towards that purpose he has for you. So, take heart. God has his own timing and God’s timing is always perfect. God is never late…but he is never early either. He brings it all together at just the right time. Hang in there and keep trusting him! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Romans 8:28 NLT And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
