There was a sweet story that Walt Disney told about an encounter with one of his daughters. She was six years old at the time and had just come back from school and Walt happened to be home. She came into where her Dad was and she got up close and she said “Are you really Walt Disney?” Her Dad laughed and said “Well, yes I am!” He pulled her up and hugged her and in a moment she looked up at her Dad and asked “Then, can I have your autograph?” She lived with a pretty famous man known for his movies and cartoons and would one day bring Disneyland to life. But to his young daughter, he was Daddy. They had that intimate, loving relationship as father and daughter, but she didn’t realize that there was much more to this man than just being her Dad. I love that story and it made me think of our relationship we have with this Jesus of the Bible. As a follower of this Jesus we can talk to him anytime we want, we can trust him for each day and for our ultimate future and we learn to sense his comforting presence through his Spirit in us. But sometimes we forget the Bible claims that this one who we have this personal relationship with is one through whom all creation came into being. That he is savior and lord and declared king of kings. And that the Bible declares that he will return and wrap up this journey of the human race and open the door of eternity to those who have asked for and received his forgiveness and grace. He is so much more than just our personal savior. But he will always be our comforter and friend and continual companion. And if it were possible, when we finally get to see him with our own eyes and honor him and worship him in person…we might just like to get that autograph from him too! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 16:15-17 NLT Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” (16) Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (17) Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being.
Remember I’m praying for you!
