I was robbed this weekend at Walmart. And it wasn’t their skyrocketed prices! It was my turn to do the shopping so after church I headed over with the list and found that you had to walk aways to get a shopping cart. I got mine and went inside and straight over to the bananas to get my first item. I parked my shopping cart next to the fruit and took a few steps to get a plastic bag for them. I turned and saw two ladies walking away from the bananas but didn’t pay much attention to it. But they kept looking back at me as they hurried off. I thought “People sure act funny at times.” I looked at where I had left my cart and where the ladies had been walking from and realized that they took off with my cart! I was left just holding my banana bag watching them go. I gave the person at the door my bag and then went outside to find another cart for myself. And as I pushed my cart back to the door and got my bananas, I realized that they were just too lazy to get their own cart! I know, it was a small thing, but just the fact that someone decided to take mine because they were not willing to put out the effort for themselves sure soured my attitude. Jesus said that we live among thieves and act as thieves ourselves…because our hearts are influenced by the enemy of God who is first and foremost a thief. The ladies took my time and my good feeling about the day as well as my shopping cart. Satan…well, he steals from us the contentment and peace in our lives and replaces it with resentment and irritation. And most of all, he steals from us the life that we can have with the God who created us. Jesus said that this thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. The good news in all of this is that Jesus said that he had a whole different purpose. His goal is to give us a rich and satisfying life and to open the door to forgiveness for anyone who will receive it. So, remember that there are two distinct choices for us in this life. We will either be a part the thievery that the enemy of God seeks to infect our lives with, or we can embrace the richness and satisfaction that Christ brings. And the best news of all is that when we receive and follow this Jesus of the Bible that fulness of life leads us through this journey of life on earth and into eternity with this one who loves you and me more than anyone ever has, ever will or ever could. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
John 10:10 NLT The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Remember I’m praying for you!
