In the Old Testament there is an account of a renegade prophet who is actually working for God’s enemies, but God gives him one more chance by allowing this prophet, named Balaam, to hear a spoken warning not from a human but from the donkey that he is riding on. Needless to say, he paid attention to this once in a lifetime event! I had an opportunity to speak at a ceremony for a friend of mine who was a real popular pastor at the time. There were to be three of us bringing a short presentation and I was the last of us to speak. The other two were pretty well known, even nationally, and as I listened to them, I really got nervous. Another pastor was sitting next to me and could tell that I was getting shaky and whispered “Hey, don’t worry about this. If God can speak through Balaam’s donkey…he can speak through you too!” I wasn’t sure how that was going to work out, but God did allow me to do a respectable job that night. I was surrounded by some real heavy hitters, and I was…and pretty much still am, just one of the “cast of thousands”. But did use me that night…and he spoke. And he continues to do that in each one of us who will trust that God can actually use us. The Apostle Paul said that God uses the things that the world considers foolish and those who are powerless to represent him in this world. So, remember that what you are facing today may seem daunting or frightening or even impossible to you. But it isn’t for God. With God nothing is impossible, and he is going to use you today, this day, if you will let him know you are ready to trust him to do his good work through you and even in spite of you! You are on
God’s team, and you are not on the bench, you are on the playing field for him. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Corinthians 1:27-29 NLT Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. (28) God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. (29) As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.
Remember I’m praying for you!
