Daily Devotional #1,836

I ran across this little story…I was on my way out of the house to meet with a cantankerous client, and I was  dreading it. The look on my face must have given me away because my four-year-old daughter asked what was  wrong.
"I'm going to meet a woman who always yells at Daddy," I told her.
"Oh," she said. "Say hi to Mom."
If you are like me, you’ve said more than your share of things that you wish you had not said. They just came  out, didn’t they? And the reason is that it came out of what was already in our hearts. The words that come out  of our hearts not only defile us (tarnish us) but they define us. We often brush off what has rolled off our  tongues with it being an accident or that we just weren’t thinking. It was an accident that we didn’t put up the wall so that people would not have access to our hearts and souls. I can think of so many times that I wished I  had just kept my mouth shut. I didn’t have to say anything…much less what rolled out of my mouth. The  Apostle Peter in his first letter in the Bible reminds us that “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days,  keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies.” But why do I have to keep riding herd on  this tongue of mine? Because it is connected to my heart. The good news is that anyone who is in Christ is a  new creation, the old has passed away and the new has come. Let the new reign in your heart and come out in  the words you and I speak. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 15:18 NLT But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
