Daily Devotional #1,855

It happened on a Friday night so many years ago…but I still remember it. I was a defensive lineman for our  school’s football team and we were in the midst of a huge game. Neither team could get a significant lead, it  changed hands time and again. There was one play where we had to hold them, and I was on the inside over a  guard and I charged forward and got past the offensive line. It was a dream come true! I’m running right at the  quarterback who is in the process of handing the ball to the halfback. It all happened so fast and yet I can  remember my thought process. The quarterback has his hands on the ball, and the halfback has his hands on the  ball at the same time. I remember looking into their eyes and they were like saucers watching me come in for  the kill. The problem was…I couldn’t choose who to tackle! Both of them kind of had the ball. I couldn’t  make up my mind which one to go for…and instead of being the hero…one of them ended up with the ball and  I got nothing. Fortunately, we won the game, so my indecision wasn’t fatal. I just couldn’t make that decision  as to who I was going to go for. In the Old Testament Joshua was the second leader of the nation of Israel as  they made their way to the land God promised them. The people…well, they were kind of like me that night.  They just couldn’t decide who they were going to follow or worship…the pagan gods of the land they were in  or the God of the Bible. Joshua confronted the people and told them to choose. It had to be one or the other.  But as for him…he said… me and my family will follow and served the Lord. We all have that choice before  us. Who will we follow and who will we serve? It will be somebody or something. To choose wrongly is fatal.  But to live in indecision, choosing not to choose…well, that’s fatal too. You and I have a choice of two  completely different paths in life. The God of the Bible calls you and me to follow him…all the way to heaven.  But to choose any other path, including being unwilling to choose, separates us from God forever. Each day, we  will answer that question with our hearts and our actions. For me, I want to stand with Joshua and served the  Lord who is the God of the Bible. You will choose this day also…choose wisely. Here’s our Bible verse for  today…

Joshua 24:15 NLT But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you  prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose  land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
