We just had our final day of our Vacation Bible School. My job, over three days, was to tell the story of three superheroes in the Bible: David, Daniel and Jesus Christ. I have a puppet that I love to use with kids and for the most part they get a kick out of Miss Kitty! My puppet and I did a quick silly skit for each of our times with the kids, and it was Miss Kitty telling the story of God’s superheroes all wrong! We did some funny things, and we all laughed together. My part was to correct Miss Kitty’s recollection of the stories with the real facts from the Bible about what each did and how they honored God with their lives. Each night I got a bit nervous thinking that the silly part would overshadow the truth of the scriptures. But as we began to talk about each one of these lives and the heroic actions that they took and how God was with them, the kids quickly calmed down. And as I was talking, I started looking into the eyes of each class that I did this for. I was just telling what the Bible said…and they became quiet and focused on each part of the story. I knew that wasn’t me and my tabby cat puppet…but that God had stepped in and began to bring home these accounts to the kid’s hearts. I thought about what the Apostle Paul wrote to his ministry partner Timothy about his history. He reminded the young man that he trusted the scriptures because he knew the lives and commitments of the people who taught him. And he reminded this young man who had such an impact for Christ that he had been taught the holy Scriptures from his childhood. And they had given him the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. When the last prayer was said for the last group on this last day…I had that wonderful feeling that just maybe me, our whole crew and even that tabby cat puppet were used by God to touch the lives of these wonderful youngsters. It was great to think that we got to be a small part of these lives that this God of the Bible was drawing to himself. And, me and my cat…are ready to do it again! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
2 Timothy 3:14-15 NLT But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. (15) You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.
Remember I’m praying for you!
