Daily Devotional #1,610

Years ago electricity was being brought to rural areas for the first time. Never before had people seen tall poles  lining the roads and electrical wires running for miles. Amazingly, many rural families didn’t want to get  connected to this new source of power. The electrical companies were aggressively telling people that their  lives would be so much easier with electric washing machines, lights for their home, power for radios and  electric vacuums for their rugs. They heard the promises but just didn’t believe or trust them. There was power  that was running right over their heads…but no matter how near the power, it did them no good until they  hooked up to it. When Jesus came into this world, the Kingdom of God was near, it was at hand. But so many  didn’t want to tap into that wonderful new power either. No matter how close they were, it did them no good.  All the goodness and glory and power of that kingdom was right there…but so many just said “No”. It is the  same for us. God wants us to participate in his kingdom. And the response of so many is just “I’d rather not”.  Like those folks years ago who had power running right over them, they chose to live in the dark. And so, it is  for many today. We choose the life in the darkness when the one who said he is the light of the world has come  and is gathering those to come and experience something new and real and powerful. Remember that each of us  is invited to tap into that power, but it won’t be forced on any one of us. The Kingdom of God is near. Step into  a whole new world by repenting and believing in the good news of the forgiveness that is yours for the asking.  Remember that this is a limited time offer…don’t leave earth without it! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Luke 10:9-11 NLT Heal the sick, and tell them, ‘The Kingdom of God is near you now.’ (10) But if a town  refuses to welcome you, go out into its streets and say, (11) ‘We wipe even the dust of your town from our feet  to show that we have abandoned you to your fate. And know this—the Kingdom of God is near!’
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
