Daily Devotional #1,612

It was the summer of 1859 that Charles Blondin became famous. He was a tightrope walker who walked on a  rope stretched across the Niagara Falls. He was 160 feet above the falls and walked back and forth between the  United States and Canada. He crossed one time on stilts and another on a bicycle. On July 15th he pushed a  wheelbarrow across the falls while blindfolded! The crowds were cheering like crazy. He shouted “Do you  believe I can push the wheelbarrow safely across the falls again.” The crowds screamed “Yes you can”. “Do  you believe I can carry a person in the wheelbarrow?” The crowd cried out “We believe!” And then he shouted  to the crowd “Who will get in the wheelbarrow?” And Blondin was suddenly greeted by silence. No one would  get in the wheelbarrow that day. That incident nearly 2 centuries ago was a pretty good picture of what faith  really looks like. The crowds screamed that they believed…but their actions showed just the contrary. The  faith we have in God is more than just intellectual agreement with a set of facts. It is a trust so strong that it  causes us to act. We can see what kind of faith we actually have by the way we live, by the choices we make.  You are going to be put in a position to show your trust in this Jesus of the Bible. He probably won’t ask you to  ride the wheelbarrow across the Niagara…but I guarantee that every day you will be called to put that faith you  have into action in some way or another. And when you do act, trusting this Jesus, you will know for sure that  the faith you claim is for real! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
James 2:14 NLT What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your  actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
