Daily Devotional #1,615

I went to the movies the other day and saw a pretty good one. But the thing that really excited me was one of  the previews before the film. The screen went dark and the foreboding music from 50 years ago started slowly  playing. I thought there had to be some kind of mistake. And then suddenly the screen was filled with the face  of Sheriff Brody standing on the beach and he began yelling to all the folks in the ocean one word…Shark!  Yep, they are bringing the movie JAWS back in a month for its 50th anniversary. I thought about that scene  where the sheriff is there screaming at the swimmers to get out of the water and get on the beach where they  will be safe and saved. And the movie shows the crowds running out of the water to safety. I got to thinking  about that scene and realized that there is some good theology out there. All of us are like those 4th of July  swimmers in a place of deadly danger. For us, it isn’t a shark, but our own sin before God. But it is as deadly  and more to our lives and souls. And the Bible is all about calling us out of the danger that our sin brings to us  and tells us to come to the place where we can’t be touched by its power. And where we are directed to go is to  the Jesus of the Bible. God wants everyone to be saved…and no one to be left out. But there is only one  mediator who can reconcile God and sinful humanity…Jesus. He gave his life so that all who believe in him  will not perish but have eternal life. So, I guess I’m kind of like Sheriff Brody…telling folks to get out of the  sin that we all have and come up on the heavenly beach to this Jesus. Because like JAWS, there will be people  who are saved and those who perish by the one who wants to consume them. Come and join this Jesus and  receive and experience the freedom from sin and guilt and judgement he alone offers. Here’s our Bible verse for  today…
1 Timothy 2:3-6 NLT This is good and pleases God our Savior, (4) who wants everyone to be saved and to  understand the truth. (5) For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the  man Christ Jesus. (6) He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the  world at just the right time.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
