Daily Devotional #1,617

John Quincy Adams was the sixth president of the United States. He was the son of Abigal and signer of the  Declaration of Independence John Adams. He was an adamant worker to abolish slavery in the United States.  He was unsuccessful as president and so when his term of office was over, he ran for congress so that he could  continue the fight to eradicate this evil in America. Time after time he would push for legislation to do that and  was defeated. Finally, one younger congressman approached him after another failure and addressed him still  as Mr. President… “Mr. President, why do you continue to fight for this cause to remove slavery when you fail  every time?” It is said that Adams looked at the young man and said “Duty is ours. Results are God’s”. That is  the position that every follower of Jesus should embrace. To strive and fight for the things that are godly and  good and right according to what God has given us in his Bible. We need to do our job…and let God do his.  The question before us would then be what is our duty? Simply said it is to love God with all our heart and all  our soul and all our might. And to love our neighbor as ourselves. And then to proclaim with our lives and our  words the good news that Christ died to save all sinners who will accept his forgiveness and his Lordship over  their lives. Do that and the words you will hear when you end this journey on earth will be “Well done, good  and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your master.” Do your duty to God and people and let God take care  of the rest. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
And that's how it should be with you. When you've done all you should, then say, "We are merely servants, and  we have simply done our duty."
(Luke 17:10 CEV)
Remember I’m praying for you!
