I saw an old picture on the internet and the commentary about it said that it was a picture of Paris, France taken in 1838. Photography was in infancy at that time. But the thing that made this even more special is that in this picture of a Paris street there is captured two people down towards the bottom. And their claim is that it is the first photograph known…of people! There are two small figures, but you can tell that it is a guy having his shoe shined. The really crazy thing is that they said that the street would have been filled with people, but because of the long exposure time needed for the film, the people couldn’t be captured. The reason that the two figures are in the picture is because they were both standing still! No one else made the photograph. I thought about that. We are all moving and scurrying around in our lives and doing all kinds of important things. But God speaks to us through one of the Psalms in the Bible and says simply “Be still and know that I am God.” Out of the crowd on that busy Paris street that day almost 200 years ago, only two were captured on that film. The two who were still…and they were preserved. We can all run ourselves ragged going from one thing to another in life. But maybe the lesson here is if you want to make an impression on your world and even history, do the most important thing first. Be still and know this God of the Bible who is God. Jesus said that this is eternal life…that they know you, the one true God and Jesus Christ the one you have sent. Slow down today…take time to even be still…and let God capture your heart and mind and soul. That’s where the lasting, eternal life is Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Psalms 46:10 NLT “Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
