Daily Devotional #1,629

My Grandmother in Texas was a wonderful influence and model for me as a follower of this Jesus of the Bible.  She overcame so many difficulties and hardships because she trusted him for each day. There were only two  things that my grandmother was really afraid of. Now she grew up in the tornado alley of Texas and told me of  a time when she was a child and a tornado actually lifted their house off the foundation and just twisted it about  two feet and set it right back down, shifted on the foundation. Tornados were just a fact of life for her. She  loved us and would come and visit us in California, but she was always on the watch for…earthquakes! We  tried to explain to her that if you feel a quake…you just walk outside the building. In contrast to a tornado that  can catch you anywhere and take you to the land of Oz! But the other thing was that she would never get on an airplane. Instead, she would take a three-day bus trip across the southwest to come and visit us. When I was  older, I was enjoying a conversation with my grandmother, and we were talking about trusting this Jesus we  both had given our lives to. She had a wonderful sense of humor and so I told her that I didn’t blame here for  not getting on an airplane…and especially as a Bible believing Christian. She looked a bit shocked, and I just  said “lt’s because of what Jesus said…”. That really got her attention. I told her “Remember before Jesus  ascended into heaven after the resurrection, the Gospel of Matthew records Jesus saying that he would be with  us always…with one condition. He said “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world!” “So  Grandma…I guess you are just trying to stay Low…just like he said!” We knew that’s not what the King James  version meant, but we both laughed, and I think we knew that we would trust as much as we could, but that  there would always be something out there that would challenge our faith…and remind us that we are saved  and live each day by his wonderful grace. He understands yours and my fears, worries and uncertainties…and  he loves us right where we are…and whispers in our time of need… “Hang in there…I am with you always…to  the very end of the world.” Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 28:20 KJV Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with  you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
