I had to make a late-night run down to our church which is out in a rural area. The road is just two lanes, but the traffic is often heavy and always fast. I was a couple of miles down from the church when all of a sudden, my headlights caught this mass in the road in front of me. Fortunately, there wasn’t anyone coming in the opposite direction and I turned into the other lane and realized that the mass was moving in all different directions. All of this happened in just a split second and as I passed by, I realized I just missed hitting three large raccoons who were fighting over something in the lane I was just in. It was probably some kind of roadkill that had captured their total focus, and the passing traffic didn’t even catch their attention! It seemed to me that no matter how good that dead meat was, it wasn’t worth missing the most important thing on that road…my car! I just shook my head as I continued down the road and of all things a Bible verse came to mind as to what was really of first importance. The Apostle Paul was writing the church in Corinth, and he told them he had passed on to them what was the most important thing for them…and for us. It was that Christ died for our sins just like the scriptures said. And that he was buried and raised from the dead and the first of many to see him alive again were his disciples. I thought about how much stuff we fight to possess for our lives and yet none of that is as important as what Paul has reminded us of. So, the lesson for those senseless raccoons was to not miss the big car that is bearing down on the in the dark of the night. And the lesson for us is to not miss the greatest and most important thing that has ever or will ever happen on this planet. God sent his son Jesus to die in our place…so that we could be forgiven of our sins and have eternal life with him. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
1 Corinthians 15:3-5 NLT I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. (4) He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. (5) He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve.
Remember I’m praying for you!
