Daily Devotional #1,635

I was talking with a friend on Thursday evening, and the subject of boots came up. I told my friend that I have  had just one pair of boots in my life, and I loved them. I purchased them decades ago and somewhere along the  line they just disappeared. I told him how I would love to have them back. Fast forward to Saturday morning  and another buddy of mine called me up and said, “Do you remember that about 15 years I had you store some  boxes in my barn?” I told him that I had forgotten all about them and since he was cleaning out the barn I’d love to come and retrieve the boxes. I got them all home and there were all kinds of things that I had forgotten  about and at the bottom of one of those boxes…yep…there was that pair of boots that I had been talking about  missing less than 48 hours before. It was a miracle! I pulled off one of my running shoes and tugged at the  boot. It hurt my foot so much, I never got it on. I had forgotten how they chafed my legs and hurt my feet.  What I wear now is so much more comfortable, practical and frankly better looking! I thought about that  experience…regretting not having what I left behind and then getting an opportunity to have it again. Only to  realize that it wasn’t what I remembered…and it wasn’t what I wanted. Our lives in Christ are kind of like that.  We leave our old lives behind and embrace this new life in Christ. But there are times when we wonder about  that life that we had back there. But when we bring it out into the light and life that Jesus gives us…we realize  that what we thought it was…well, it was a lie. The Apostle Paul said he had things in his life that he thought  were valuable, but now he considered them worthless because of what Christ has done. And that everything  back there is worthless compared with the infinite value of know Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. So, if you  find yourself looking backwards at things that you once valued, if you decide to “try them on”, you’ll find that  they don’t look, feel or work like you thought they did. You are different now. The Bible says that in Christ,  you are now a child of God. And you experience his love and power and forgiveness each day. And there is  nothing that you “lost” back there that is worth going back to or having again. Let it go…in Christ you’ve got  the best you can get. And me…well, those boots never made it into the house! Here’s our Bible verse for  today…
Philippians 3:7-8 NLT I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because  of what Christ has done. (8) Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of  knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that  I could gain Christ
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
