Daily Devotional #1,643

The great Christian writer, C.S. Lewis was a part of a story that took place in either Oxford or Cambridge  University. Lewis walked in on some friends who were debating what was unique about Christianity. One said  that it was the incarnation…that God came in human form. Someone replied that other faiths already believed  that. Another suggested that it was the resurrection. That the tomb on Easter was found empty. Another said  that other religions had accounts of people returning from the dead. Lewis was standing there with his arms full  of papers and sat down and listened to this exchange that had morphed into a pretty passionate argument.  Finally, he interrupted and asked what all this was about. The whole group turned to him, and someone said we  are debating what’s unique about Christianity. Immediately Lewis shot back “Oh, that’s easy…Grace.” The  Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesian church that God saved you by his grace when you believed. That this was a  gift from God and there was no way you could take credit for it. That the salvation that you can experience  from God is not a reward for a good life of doing good things. And because of that…no one can ever boast  about his position or relationship with God. God did all the work on the cross and he gave the salvation it produced that to anyone who wanted it and asked for it. And each day we walk on this earth, we thank God for  his grace to us and to everyone who wants it. Grace…it is found no where else. And in the Christian faith, God  becomes flesh and dies on the cross to pay for our sins. And that death is credited to anyone and everyone who  trusts him and asks for that gift. Being saved through the grace of God…it is found nowhere else. And it is  yours for the asking. So, make sure you ask! And if you have it…say “Thank You”! Here’s our Bible verse for  today…

Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a  gift from God. (9) Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Remember I’m praying for you!
