Our church is hosting a car show next Sunday and some buddies of mine and I went to a local gathering of car lovers to get some encouragement and ideas. It was a great setting at another church, and they had some wonderful people and hamburgers, hot dogs and some awesome cars! And all the cars were just drop dead gorgeous! I met some of the owners and talked to them about the history of the cars. A number of them talked about what the car had looked like when they found it and bought it. Most of them were in pretty rough shape, but now so many of them looked like they had come right off the showroom floor! They were just beautiful. One of my buddies brought his vintage 1941 convertible and it was just stunning. I realized how all these folks, men and women, had brought new life to these wonderful vehicles. I thought about that, and I couldn’t help but think of how God does that in us. So many of us get worn down by life. And it isn’t just a matter of years, but the storms we weather and the sometimes-harsh roads we travel down. The prophet Isaiah brought a message of encouragement from God that has resonated across so many centuries. He said that even the young amongst us will grow weak and tired and sometimes just fall in exhaustion. And even more so those of us who are of a more vintage age! But there in God’s Word it tells us that if we will trust in the Lord we will find new strength, new life, new hope. Like these wonderful cars God will clean us up, clean us out and put us back on the road ready for new adventures. He said that we would soar on wings like eagles, run and not grow weary and walk and not faint. So, if you are feeling worn down by the roads you’ve traveled recently, remember that you are not destined for the junkyard. Nope. You just have to come to the one who can restore you to showroom quality. It may be more inner than outward, but he will give you new power and strength for this day and the days ahead. And you will not only enjoy new life but will be a walking advertisement for the God who brings restoration to both body and soul. And you too will experience a newness of life and love that you thought was lost forever…but God did his good and perfect work in you and now through you! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Isaiah 40:29-31 NLT He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. (30) Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. (31) But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Remember I’m praying for you!
