Daily Devotional #1,653

A Bible Study leader asked an unusual question of his group of guys and said “A man was walking with a cup  of coffee in a Starbucks, and someone bumped him and coffee spilled out of his cup. Why did the coffee come  out of his cup?” The guys gave all kinds of answers…the other guy was careless, the guy carrying the coffee  wasn’t looking where he was going or the shop was too crowded. The leader said, “The reason coffee came out  of the cup was because that’s what was in the cup.” He went on to say that if he had water in the cup…it would  have been water coming out of the cup.” The guys looked confused, and the leader went on, “Everybody gets  their cup knocked over from time to time and it is only then that we get to see what is really in your heart. If it  is filled with anger, bitterness, pride, immorality, hostility…then when your cup gets knocked over by  something or someone in life, that’s what will spill out. But if your heart is filled with God’s love, joy, peace,  patience and kindness, when your cup gets knocked over that’s what will spill out instead. You and I will never  be perfect, but when the world, events and especially people knock that cup over…what you and I and everyone  else will see is what is really in our hearts. With God, it is always about the heart. So, what do we do? Just  what Jesus said…Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. And then love  your neighbor as yourself. We will bump into people who have different ideas, passions and goals. But  remember when that happens, what you are carrying in your heart will spill out. Make sure that what is in your  cup has been poured in there by God. Here’s our Bible verse for today...
Luke 6:45 NLT A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person  produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart.
Remember I’m praying for you!
With love, PJ
