There is a story about a tough old rancher who once told his grandson that the secret to long life was to sprinkle a little gunpowder on his oatmeal every morning. The grandson did this religiously, and he lived to be 93. When he died, he left 14 children, 28 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren…and a 15-foot hole in the wall of the crematorium! In that silly story we are reminded that how we live our lives, lives on beyond our years here on earth. Jesus told a group of people, in what we call the Sermon on the Mount, that when you live as a follower of him, you are the light of the world. And people don’t take light and then cover it up. They let that light be seen and touch the people around them. Jesus said that you are to let your light shine so that they can see the good and noble and worthy things you have done and left behind in the hearts of people. And the aim is not to glorify ourselves, but that they would look at us and glorify your Father in heaven. So, live well today and do all the good you can while you can. Because one day your journey will be over but what you do will leave behind a legacy of God’s love and life. And like our old rancher…you just might wind up this life with a bang! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 5:14-16 BSB You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. (15) Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. (16) In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Remember I’m praying for you!
