Daily Devotional #1,668

There is a story that I heard a long time ago about a wealthy woman who wanted to see the “real Africa”. So,  she went on a safari with a group and saw wildlife and took tours through towns and villages. And then the  guide let them stop briefly at a hospital for lepers. It was hot and flies were everywhere. She saw a nurse who  was bending, kneeling in the dirt and was treating the ugly sores that covered this one leper’s leg. The woman  looked at the sight and just couldn’t help herself and she said “Oh my…I wouldn’t do that for all the money in  the world.” The older nurse didn’t even look up but replied… “Neither would I”. Why are we called to do the  things that “money can’t buy”? Because as a follower of this Jesus of the Bible we have been loved so deeply  and richly…and that love, when experienced, can’t be contained. It just leaks out in our words and actions and  lives. When you give your heart to his Jesus of the Bible…you become at that moment one of God’s children.  And as his children, we are compelled to follow the example of Christ, to live a life filled with love. He  sacrificed himself so that we might live…now and for all eternity. And now we live in His truth and love.  There are people and situations where you couldn’t pay me to show love and tenderness and forgiveness to  them. But I can and hope that I will, because when I was the most unlovely…God loved me first. And when  you and I accept that love our job is to imitate him and show others the love that touched and changed our  hearts first. Go and live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. Here’s our Bible verse for  today…

1 John 4:19 NLT We love each other because he loved us first.
Remember, I’m praying for you today….
