I recently read about a mainline church denomination publishing specific Bible verses that they had concluded were dangerous and harmful to people today. I didn’t use the word Christian to describe the church because you can’t have it both ways. You cannot be follower of Jesus Christ and then turn around and choose what things you like and reject what you don’t like in the Bible. I didn’t see it for myself, but one source said that there was even an effort to eliminate the 10th commandment. This is all second hand, but I see it pretty often in people who really don’t like what the Bible says…but like the idea, if not the person of Jesus. Some of the scriptures that I look to that remind me that the Bible claims to be the word of God are these…
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work". 2 Timothy 3:16-17
"You do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit". 2 Peter 1:20-21
"And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe" 1 Thessalonians 2:13
Now people are free to believe anything they want in this life. But remember there are consequences to our actions. The Apostle Paul kept preaching about Jesus in towns all over the place in his day. And it was not uncommon for people to riot, for him to be thrown in jail or to be physically assaulted for what he said. But
there was one place that is applauded in the Book of Acts, which tells about the spread of the Good News about Jesus. Paul and his buddy Silas came to a town called Berea and people listened to what he had to say. But every day, after listening to them talk about God and what God wanted, they went back and searched the scriptures to see if they were telling the truth. So, if you are going to be a follower of this Jesus of the Bible…go and see what that Bible says about him, about life, your purpose and your destiny. You can do whatever you want…but again, the Bible reminds us that there are forever consequences to what we believe, what we do and what we proclaim as God’s truth. Go read that Bible for yourself! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Acts 17:11 NLT And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
Remember, I’m praying for you today….
