I heard a guy say, “If your peace depends on everything going right for you, that’s not peace, that’s control.” We feel relaxed and secure if we imagine that we can control all that goes on around us. And yet the reality is that we control practically nothing. There are so many things out there that you and I have no control over. We might make a difference and be able to help shape and guide direction of things and people, but we don’t really have control. Even our lives. You and I got up this morning and maybe we felt pretty good and optimistic and yet the formation of a small clot that lodges in a specific place can end our earthly journey. You won’t be able to control today how people will respond to you. And there may be things that will come and discourage your heart or even bring you sorrow. Jesus was talking to his disciples about the fact that he had come from God and that he had overcome the world. In John 16:33 he said that he told his disciples all about who he was, where he had come from and what his mission was to that we could find our peace in our relationship and trust in him. And he told them that here on earth they will have many trials and sorrows. But he told them to take heart. That when the storms and disappointments of life attack our hearts, he will be there, and he will hold us, protect us and bring us through the storms of life. He didn’t say that he would bulldoze an easy path for you and me. He said that no matter what happened, we will pass through whatever it is because while you and I are not in control…this Jesus of the Bible is. Today or in the days ahead there will be something that will bring you trouble. There will be something that will bring you fear. But Jesus promised that if we will look to him and trust him, we will experience the gift that he has left us for our journey here on earth…peace of mind and heart. Don’t be troubled or be afraid, because the God of the Bible is in control. With you it will be impossible…not so with God, because all things are possible with God. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
John 14:27 NLT “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
Remember, I’m praying for you today….
