Daily Devotional #1,685

There was a little boy who started to say his prayers before he went to sleep. Mom and Dad were at the door  listening but what they heard was a very reverent tone and their son was reciting the alphabet! Mom and Dad  stepped in and asked him what he was doing. He looked up at them and said “I’m saying my prayers…but I  can’t think of all the right words tonight. So, I’m just saying all the letters. God knows what I need, and he’ll  put all the words together for me.” You know, that kid was pretty much right on the money. Two thousand  years ago, the Apostle Paul wrote about this in his letter to the Romans in the Bible. He wrote them and us that  the Holy Spirit will help us in our weaknesses and that we don’t really know what God wants us to pray for.  But God’s Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. There are going to be times  when we don’t know how or what to pray for. For a follower of Jesus this Holy Spirit will be right alongside  you helping you along. There will be times when you just don’t have the words to say…but your heart has  called you to connect with the God of the Bible. And in those times that are hard and even heartbreaking, God’s  Spirit will make prayer out of our wordless sighs and our aching groans. So don’t let the times that are the  hardest and the most discouraging keep you from coming to God. Just tell him that you don’t know what to say  or even how to pray…you just bring what is in your heart before God. Like that little guy saying his  prayers…you unload, and God will put it all together for you. Just keep praying. And pray about everything.  And pray often, because when you do, you connect with the one being in the universe who loves you more than  any other. And he wants you and your heart to come to him for help, encouragement, comfort and guidance.  You show up…God will take care of the rest. Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Romans 8:26-27 NLT And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God  wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in  words. (27) And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us  believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Remember, I’m praying for you today….
