I really like model airplanes. And that hobby is really two separate hobbies. The most obvious is the building and painting of airplanes. I do that. But the other part of the hobby is going out and buying model airplane kits. I’m even better at that. And I have a treasure trove of kits that I’m sure I will never finish! I had been going through a great book on the Battle of Britain that took place in 1940. There were many great air battles during the summer and fall of that year between English planes and German planes. Well, that was on my mind, and I was trolling Ebay and I found one of the German planes that I had read about in the accounts of the battles. But the best thing was that it was a killer deal! I compared the price of this kit with all the others online and I knew that I had found a hidden treasure. It was late at night, and I was vulnerable and so I took a closer look at my find and in the description, it said that it was missing some pieces. So, I had to decide if it was worth buying. The guy had put up pictures of the box which looked great and then there were pictures of what was inside. And it was practically nothing! No wings, no fuselage, no propellers…and just a handful of odds and ends. In my mind, I thought I had stumbled on the deal of the century. But the box was virtually empty! Now I don’t think that the guy was trying to deceive people because he did say that there were missing parts…he just didn’t say that almost all the parts were missing. But I breathed a sigh of relief, and it hit me that this is the way we end up dealing with the Devil. He entices us with things that look good to the eye and sound great to the ear…and are appealing to what we want. And it is easy to get trapped into believing what he has said and
promises he has made. And he started this con game in the third chapter of the whole Bible and spoiler alert; the book of Revelation tells us he will be destroyed and all those who bought into the lies he put out there for humans never make it home to heaven. So be careful what you buy into and what you choose to believe. Because a lot of people have made shipwrecks of their faith by not keep their eyes on God and being grounded with a good knowledge of what the Bible says. And like so much of the reality of life, if it looks too good to be true and it is too easy…it just might be that Devil of the Bible doing his work again. Don’t buy it! God is good and he is real and his promises are true. Go for the good stuff that he has…and you won’t be disappointed at the end. Here’s our Bible verse for today…

He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.
