The teenager lost a contact lens while playing basketball in his driveway. After a brief, fruitless search, he gave up. His mother took up the cause and within minutes found the lens.
“How did you do it?” he asked.
“We weren’t looking for the same thing,” she explained. “You were looking for a piece of plastic. I was looking for $150.” As a parent and grandparent…I get that. But we all do that in our lives…I mean that the way we value things or events sure influences the way we act. That young man wasn’t paying for that missing contact I bet. And he did look for it. But in that story, Mom found it because she knew the cost of that missing object and what it would take to replace it. If you are follower of Jesus Christ, you have found value in him because you trust that he has died for your sins and that because you asked…he has forgiven you and given you a free ticket to heaven! And so what do we do…if we really value this Jesus of the Bible? Well, we do what he did and what he taught and honor what’s in the Bible we have. A lot of church people are like that mother and son. They know that this Jesus stuff is important…but…there are so many other good things to focus on and to do.
And then there are those who choose to not only give their heart to Christ…but give themselves to the life that he and his word direct us to. So, remember that there is a difference between being a convert and being a follower. They both agree that this is really important. But only one of them, like that mother in the driveway, will give their hear, mind, soul…and time to him on a regular basis. Let your life show that this Jesus really is the best thing ever and the most valuable person in yours or anyone’s life. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Philippians 1:27 NLT Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.
Remember, I’m praying for you today….
