Daily Devotional #1,698

There is a story of a guy who was a great fisherman on this one particular lake. He went there regularly and  even when others didn’t get a bite, he would come back from a hidden place with a full limit of fish. One guy  heard about this and showed up as the guy was pushing his boat out to the lake and asked if he could come  along. The fisherman said “Sure!” So, the guy loaded his fishing pole and tackle on the boat and away they  went. They ended up in a secluded spot well away from everyone else. They got settled down in the boat and  the fisherman opens his tackle box and pulls out a stick of dynamite! He lights it and throws it into the water.  In just a second there is the explosion and all of a sudden there are dead fish all over the place. Without a word,  the fisherman pulls out a net and starts pulling in the fish. The guy who came along is just stunned by all of this  but then he reaches in his pocket and pulls out his Game Warden badge. He says “You can’t do this. I’m going  to have to take you in!” The fisherman doesn’t say a word but calmly reaches in his tackle box and pulls out  another stick of dynamite and lights it…and throws it to the Game Warden! The Game Warden is horrified but  catches the dynamite with the fuse almost gone and just holds it out in front of him. The fisherman looks at the  Game Warden and says “Ok…are you going to talk…or are you going to fish?” I don’t know what  happened…but if I were that Game Warden, I would immediately start dynamite fishing! Sometimes in life we  just don’t have time to mess around and we have to take action. One of those is when we come to a command  from God. It has been said that when it comes to God, delayed obedience is disobedience. When we know  what we must do we need to get with it right away. When you know that God wants you to do something,  usually hard things, do it. Because your obedience in a timely fashion is a reflection of the trust you have in  God but also God has a time schedule. Your obedience to something right now, may affect someone or  something else in a time when it is most needed. So when you know that God is telling you to take that step of  faith, don’t delay. Because you just might be a partner with God in something that will not only touch your life,  but the life or even lives of others. Stop talking about it, quit holding the dynamite and just throw it into the  water! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Psalms 119:60 NLT I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.
Remember I’m praying for you…
