I waited for that moment for 65 years! I figured that I was about 9 years old when I first saw the signs. We were making our summer trip to Texas to visit my grandmother in Dallas and in those days, there were souvenir shops and stands all along that route. But the one that captured my imagination was one that advertised by just putting up the silhouette of a rabbit on a sign and they started their sirens’ call hundreds of miles away. We went from 200 to 100 and then 20 and finally there it was. Untold treasures waiting to be claimed by my 9- year-old heart. But Dad just kept driving. Over the years the passion lessened, and I had given up hope and quit asking if we could stop and just sample the wonders of that place. Later in life I made trips to Texas but then it was by plane. But this past month I traveled every mile of that trip by car once more and when we crossed into Arizona…the signs started again. I told my fellow travelers my sad tale and they all agreed that we had to stop. And we did. The building was out in the middle of pretty much nowhere. I got out of the car and walked through the door that I thought I would never pass through. But that dream from so long ago…came true! I bought a stack of stuff and when I went to pay for it the man told me that he was now the owner and that it had been a family business for decades. I looked at him and simply said…I’m glad we stopped because I’ve waited 65 years to look inside this shop! I told my story, and he congratulated me on finally making it to his store! That’s a silly story…kind of. But all of us have dreams in our hearts that haven’t been fulfilled. Things that we hope for. Some dreams should not come true…because we find that they were in fact nightmares that God has protected us from. But there are things that God will bring into your life that you have longed for. It
might be love or real life or even just laughter. Remember though that God is not in the business of bringing you good stuff…he will bring you the best stuff for your life and for your heart. So dream but let those dreams be put into the hands of the God who covers you with his protection, if you will let him. And the dreams that are his too are the dreams you want and the dreams he will bring to life. So don’t be afraid to dream, and don’t be discouraged at the time that passes. God’s timing is always perfect. Never forget he has plans for you that are good and are meant to give you a future and a hope. Trust your dreams to the God of the Bible and patiently wait to see what he will do for you. Because he loves you more than anyone ever has or ever will. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
