Daily Devotional #1,707

I remember as a kid this time of year was so exciting! Christmas was in sight and the Sears “Wishbook” was  there in the house for us to constantly thumb through and dream about toys that we just couldn’t live without. I  remember one Christmas I spotted a crystal radio set in that toy catalogue and asked my dad if that was  something that Santa might bring me. He looked at it and told me that he just didn’t know if that was possible,  but I could certainly ask for it and see what would happen. I did and on Christmas day…there it was. It was  made of yellow plastic with one black tuning knob on it and there was the “magic” crystal that allowed a radio  signal to be captured and routed through some plastic earphones without any electricity or batteries! The
problem was the in order to make it work, this set required a significant wire antenna to be strung outside. So I  had to wait for days before my dad could climb a huge tree in our front yard and string the wire from there to  the eve of the house and finally in under my bedroom window. I excitedly tried it out and sure enough I could  get the only radio station that our town had…KHOT! I spent a lot of hours listening to my own radio in my  own bedroom. But even as a kid, I realized that I wouldn’t have been able to use this great gift if my dad hadn’t  climbed the tree and then up to the high eve and string all that wire for me. And that made that gift so much  more special. Dad did that for me. And I never forgot that. He didn’t have someone else do it or just let it  go…he did the work for me. I loved him for that. But now when Christmas comes, I will remember that there  was a gift and it wasn’t just an idea or some kind of heavenly command…but it was God who came in person  and did all the hard work all the way through to the cross itself because he loved me…and you and all of us. He  came in the flesh and did the work for us…and I love him for that. Christmas will be here before you know it,  so remember that God didn’t send a substitute at Christmas, but lowered himself to be like us, to live like us, to  love us and to die for us. God did that for me. And I will never forget that. I hope you will do the same.  Here’s our Bible verse for today…

John 1:14 BSB The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of  the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Remember I’m praying for you…
