Daily Devotional #1,725

Growing up he was one of our family’s favorite singers at Christmas time and when my wife and I had our first  Christmas together, we bought his Christmas album. His name was Nat King Cole. One of the reasons that our  family locked into his incredible singing voice was an experience that my Mom had. My Dad took her to a  venue that would bring many big-name entertainment acts up to our area from time to time called “The  Hacienda”. They had a ballroom that served as a performance setting, and one night Mom and Dad waited  there for Nat King Cole to come out. Mom said that when he stepped on stage, “That was the first time I  understood what they meant when they called someone ‘A Star’”. You could sense that immediately…he was  different from all the rest of us. There are people who are uniquely gifted with talent, ability and  charisma…and they are different from us. I got to thinking about that and remembered that is the basic  definition of the word “holy”. It is not used in reference to performers, athletes or politicians! But God is  called holy…meaning that he is different, he is not like us in his being or his character or his ability or his  morality. He is God…and we are not. The angel Gabriel appears to Mary to announce to her that she is going  to be the mother of the Messiah, God who comes in the flesh. He says that the Holy Spriit will come upon you  and his power will overshadow you. And that this baby, who she is to name Jesus will be holy…and will be  called the Son of God. God becomes flesh and dwells among us at that first Christmas. He lives and breathes  and even experiences death like we do. But he is not us. God is creator, redeemer and ruler. So don’t forget  the majesty of what happened that first Christmas. Not only a virgin birth, but the one who is born, this Jesus of  the Bible is holy and was then and will be forever called the Son of God. And he loves you more than anyone  ever will or ever can. And he wants to be a part of your life today. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Luke 1:35 NLT The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will  overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.
Remember I’m praying for you…
