Daily Devotional #1,726

I was reading through the Gospel of Matthew, and I came to the place where Jesus asks his disciples “Who do  people say that I am?” And there were a lot of ideas out there as to who Jesus really was. It went from John the  Baptist to Jeremiah the Old Testament prophet who had come back to life. They were all over the map. Pretty  much like today. People have all kinds of opinions about who Jesus is. And most folks will listen to what  others will say and their arguments just might sway us to their views. But then after listening to his disciples  list all the identities that folks had given him, he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Good old  Apostle Peter jumped in and said, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Then Jesus said something  rather stunning. He told Peter that he was blessed…because God had revealed that to him. That knowing the  reality of who this Jesus of the Bible is, isn’t truly learned from people, but God’s work in the heart and mind of  a person. As we come to Christmas, we ought to answer that same question that Jesus asked that day nearly  2,000 years ago. Yeah, people have lots of opinions out there…but who do you say that I am? That is a choice  that every person who will walk on planet earth will answer in one form or another. And like Jesus said that  day, the kind of assurance and convincing that will change a heart and mind comes only from this God that the  Bible reveals to us. So, stop for a moment in this season and ask yourself, “Who do I say that this Jesus is?”  Because according to the Bible, everything rests on the answer you give. You’ll hear the folks out there give  you their thoughts, but this Christmas why not just take time and ask God to reveal to you who he truly is and
what he has done for you? It doesn’t cost you anything and it might be the most important conversation you  will ever have…and give you the Merriest Christmas ever! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 16:13-17 NLT When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do  people say that the Son of Man is?” (14) “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah,  and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.” (15) Then he asked them, “But who do you say I  am?” (16) Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” (17) Jesus replied, “You  are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this  from any human being.
Remember I’m praying for you…
