Daily Devotional #1,729

I saw a short clip of comedian Jim Carrey who was addressing the Golden Globe Awards event. He got up and  said “I’m a two-time winner of the Golden Globe. But when I go to sleep at night…I dream of being a three time winner!” That got a good laugh, but then, looked at the audience of his peers and said “But I think about it  and realize even that won’t be enough.” I liked his honesty and he really spoke the truth about life here on  planet earth. What would it take for you to be completely satisfied? What really is enough? The Bible tells us  that it will never be enough to satisfy us on the deepest levels of our hearts. There is always something out  there that we long for. We might not have the honesty with others or even ourselves to be bold enough to speak  like Jim Carrey did that night. But the Bible reminds us that if we are living to satisfy our own desires, it will  always end up not being enough for our lives. But the Bible does tell us that there is a way to have experience  that satisfaction and contentment. If we live for our desires and wants…they seem rich at the moment but  eventually the joy and the fulfillment seem to just wear off. But if we will focus on this Jesus of the Bible, the  promise is that our living for him will bring us a harvest of everlasting life from the Spirit. And that everlasting  is not just a quantity of time of life, but a quality of life that we can find nowhere else. The Apostle Paul, who  wrote those words for us, said that the way we experience this is to not grow tired in doing what is good, in the  sight of God and to our fellow travelers on this planet. And he assures us that at just the right time we will reap
a harvest of blessing if we just don’t give up. That’s the problem that a lot of us run into. We just give up to  early and too easily. Get your life connected to this Jesus…that’s what you were created for. And then God will  give you that peace for your hearts and a contentment with the life you share with him and with others. Merry  Christmas and here is our Bible verse for today…
Galatians 6:8-9 NLT Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from  that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. (9) So  let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give  up.
Remember I’m praying for you…
