Daily Devotional #1,732

I got a text the other day and it was a picture of a receipt from a restaurant. And the text said that someone had  bought this young couple breakfast. The waitress brought them the credit card receipt to let them know it was  paid for by folks they did not know and on the receipt, it had this written on the bottom: “We saw you were  praying and were so encouraged! Merry Christmas!” The young couple was not around where I live, and they  had no reason to “perform” for anyone’s sake there. They simply bowed and prayed before they ate their meal  in this public restaurant…because as young followers of Jesus, that is a practice that they have chosen for their  lives. I loved that it wasn’t two older folks who had been doing stuff like that before people walked on the
moon. It was a young couple who were choosing to live out their faith whenever or wherever they were. The  Gospel of John says that those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what  God wants (John 3:21). This young man and woman did that as a part of their lifestyle and at least one other  couple saw it and were encouraged by it. It is a reminder to all of us that the world is watching to see if what  you do matches what you say. And sometimes they will look hoping to see your failures. But deep down, many  are looking to see if it is true that you really believe this stuff about the Jesus of the Bible and deep in their  hearts, they hope to find some evidence that this good news about Jesus really is true. Remember the world is  watching and listening, but you are not performing for them. You are simply living in that light that is in fact  the Son of God who came to us at that first Christmas. Merry Christmas…Here is our Bible verse for today…
Mark 4:21 NLT Then Jesus asked them, “Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a  bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine.
Remember I’m praying for you…
