My family gave me a small stuffed Jiminy Cricket (from the movie “Pinocchio”) some years ago. In the movie I remember him singing “When You Wish Upon A Star”. The first stanza says:
“When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you”
We all have dreams for our lives and for the lives of those we love. But do we really want anything our hearts or the hearts of others to come true? There are things in all of our hearts that we long for and yet as a follower of this Jesus of the Bible…we want not just our wants, but the best that God has for us. And there are times when we don’t know what that is. But God does. God promises us that he has a good future for us. In Jeremiah 29:11 he tells us, “For I know what I have planned for you,’ says the LORD. ‘I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope.” God is declaring that he is for you not against you and maybe that dream that you have in your heart is from him. If it is, then God will, in some way, be bringing it to you. But he won’t let a dream that would harm you be a part of his plan for your life. So if you are waiting right now for something from God…be patient. No matter how sweet it sounds, wishing upon a star is not going to change your future; and anything and everything your heart desires… may not be what God
desires. But some of it may. So if you carry something in your heart, a dream or a desire or hope…don’t wish, but pray to the one who really can make dreams come true. And then be patient, strong and courageous enough to wait for God and for his perfect timing. Never forget that you are so loved by this God of the Bible and he will bring the best to your life if you will trust him. And never forget that God is not in the business of bringing just the good to your life…but the best for you through his will for you to have a rich and satisfying life. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Psalms 27:14 BSB Wait patiently for the LORD; be strong and courageous. Wait patiently for the LORD!
