Daily Devotional #1,754

On Sunday, the pastor gave an enthusiastic and pretty inspiring message and then at the end of the service,  challenged every person in the room to read Mark 17 before next Sunday. That next Sunday, before he started  his message, he asked the congregation “How many of you read Mark 17 this past week?” Nearly everyone in  the church raised their hands except for a quiet group of folks with their hands left in their laps. The Pastor  said, “Well, this leads us to our message today about knowing what’s in your Bible and sin of lying. There are  only 16 chapters in the Gospel of Mark!” Both of those things are important to us and important to God. God  tells the truth and he wants us to tell the truth. We all lie. And if you knew your Bible, you would have known  that there are only those 16 chapters. When we get a regular diet of God’s Word in our minds and hearts, God  uses that to reshape our values and our character. That means that we won’t lie as much! But also, we need to  know what is in that Bible. You read it enough and you’ll get the lay of the land so to speak, from God’s  perspective. And you’ll begin to become familiar with what is in that book. Even how many chapters are in  some of the most read ones. So, open up that Bible today, read it and seek to understand it and for heaven’s  sake make the effort to start living like is tells us to. Yeah, you won’t be perfect. But you will be better. Go be  better today…read your Bible! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 4:4 NLT But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every  word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Remember I’m praying for you…
