There is the account of an Old Testament individual named Enoch. He is mentioned in the 5th chapter of Genesis and then his story is reaffirmed in the book of Hebrews in the New Testament. What makes his short story so unique is that it says that Enoch walked in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him. And that’s it. Everyone else dies, but something special happened here with this man
from so many centuries ago. A couple had their young son in a Sunday School class during the church’s worship service and on the way home they would ask him about what he learned that morning. This day they asked and he said that they learned about Enoch. Now Mom and Dad knew that there was very little about Enoch in the Bible, so they asked him what he learned about him. The youngster enthusiastically said “Well, Enoch and God were good friends, and they used to take walks together and they would walk and talk and walk and talk all the time. And then one day God and Enoch walked and talked, and they realized how far they had come and how late it was and God said to Enoch ‘Enoch, look how far we have walked and talked. And look, we are much closer to my house than we are to yours. Why don’t you just come home with me today? And he did.’” For those who take those walks, for a lifetime with God, the day will come when that voice of an old friend will whisper to your heart “We have walked and talked for such a long time…and look, we are so much closer to my house than we are to yours. Why don’t you just come on home with me today?” Let God be your best friend and take those walks and talks…and one day you’ll still go through the experience of death but live so that it will simply be your best friend asking you to just come on home with him for all eternity. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Hebrews 11:5 NLT It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.” For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.
Remember I’m praying for you…
