There was a guy who had never ridden a horse and his cowboy buddies wanted to give him a chance to get in the saddle and ride. They took him to a ranch that had several horses and they took mercy on him, and they decided on an older mare that looked pretty gentle and tame. They had their buddy climb up on the corral fence and just swing his leg over the horse and the animal would do the rest. The man climbed the fence and threw his leg the over horse but was too unsure to take his other leg off the railing. The old horse knew the drill, that when anyone got on her back, she was to start moving around the corral. She slowly began to move out into the corral, but the new rider couldn’t bring himself to let go of the fence and so slowly he began to get stretched out, half on the horse and half still on the fence. And in a moment, he fell off both the horse and the fence into the corral dirt. The lesson is that you can’t take both options when you have to make a choice. That’s the situation that we have with the God of the Bible. You don’t get to choose him and any other option. It is one or the other. To not decide, is to choose against God. When Joshua was leading the Jewish nation to the promised land, he gathered them and told them they needed to choose who they were going to serve if they wouldn’t serve the God of the Bible. But he said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!” Everybody makes the choice in one way or another. Choose wisely…this opportunity expires when you do. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Joshua 24:15 BSB But if it is unpleasing in your sight to serve the LORD, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD!”
