Daily Devotional #1,765

In his lifetime he wrote some 400 songs. When World War II broke out, he was refused enlistment because of a  heart condition. So, he and his wife spent the war entertaining the troops. After the war, both he and his wife  gave their lives to this Jesus of the Bible, and they were a part of a Bible Study group made up of other  Hollywood entertainers. And then he got the job that made him famous to my generation, because we saw him  every day after school. His name was Jimmie Dodd, and he was the leader of the Mickey Mouse Club and the  Mouseketeers. He used that wonderful show to share Bible-based advice to kids that became known as  “Doddisms”. At the end of each Mickey Mouse Club episode he would share, with song, a moral or spiritual  message based on Bible principles or on sections of the book of Proverbs. They say what we kids saw on that  Mickey Mouse club each weekday afternoon was really who Jimmie Dodd was. He was a father figure to the  youngsters who became the Mouseketeers for Disney. When his time with the Mickey Mouse Club had run its  course, he produced a “Children’s Bible Story-Time”LP to share the good news about Jesus with kids. And he  finally moved to Hawaii and hosted a radio show called Jimmie Dodd’s Aloha Time,” to share the gospel with  others. He died of cancer at the age of 54. I can still remember Jimmie Dodd singing at the end of every  Mickey Mouse Club show… “Now it’s time, to say goodbye, to all our company. M-i-c…see you real soon. K e-y…why? Because we like you. M-o-u-s-e. I’m thankful that I grew up in a time when Disney and TV  allowed me to be exposed to such a man as he was. And Jimmie…I don’t know if it will be real soon…but I  will get to see you..again…and thank you in person for being that kind of light of Jesus to us kids as we grew up  so long ago. And I hope that I’ll leave behind a godly legacy that will touch others too. Here’s our Bible verse  for today…
Matthew 5:14-15 NLT “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. (15) No  one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to  everyone in the house.
Remember I’m praying for you…
