Years ago, I remember going to the movies and watching “Cinderella” and she sang “A dream is a wish your heart makes.” And then there was Ricky Nelson who sang “All I have to do is dream” after the Ozzie and Harriet show. There has been a lot of talk about having dreams and the need to dream. But most of that is movie or entertainment stuff. But there is something else that is happening in our world today. There are people who are giving up an old way of living and believing in this Jesus of the Bible because of a dream. Some time ago I was in a seminar and there was a video interview of a young man who had been a part of a group that was looking for a way to share the good news of this Jesus of the Bible with a village of Muslim Africans. They were trying to find something good to bring to the villagers so that they might have the opportunity to then share their faith in Christ with these people. They set up a meeting for the next morning with the whole village and when they met with the folks, they made their presentation of what they could do for them…and there was no response…nothing! One of the leaders in the village stopped the young Americans with an upheld hand. And then he said to the young men “Jesus has appeared to a number of us in our dreams last night. He told us to listen to what you had to say about him.” The young Americans were stunned and went from talking about the well that they could dig or the crop advice they had…and simply told them about Jesus. The village listened and then told the Americans that they needed to talk with each other privately. The two young men waited and after a bit, the spokesman for the village said, “We have voted and we have all decided to follow Jesus!” From Iran to Jordan to Gaza, former Muslims have bene having incredible encounters with Jesus…and it is happening in their dreams. One estimate is that about 1 out of every 3 Muslims that come to faith in Christ have had a dream or a vision of Jesus. God has ways of getting our attention and reaching our hearts and it sounds like one way is using dreams. Dreams are a topic over 200 times in the Bible…and it sounds like God is using that today too! We need to let God talk to our hearts and the hearts of those he wants to share his love and life with.
So, keep dreaming too…you just never know what our God is going to do in your life or the lives of those around you. Nothing is impossible for him! Here’s our Bible verse for today…
