Daily Devotional #1,770

Every one of us has two lives that we can live. My first life was as a kid loving football. I played with my  friends on grammar school fields and when I was 13, I played in my first JV high school game. I started my  first varsity game when I was 15. I wasn’t great by any means but could hold my own and loved every minute  of it! I went to college and didn’t get to play nearly what I had before…too little and too slow. After that first  season, I felt more disappointment than elation even with the success of our team. My pastor talked me into  going on a trip with a group to help with a Vacation Bible School on a Navajo reservation. I had been in church  most of my life, but at that desert place, I surrendered my heart to that Jesus we had been teaching about to so  many kids that week. As a treat to our small team, they had built in some side trips in the southwest on our  journey home. On our last night before coming home we had all of us packed into one motel room in some  desert California town. I was worried because I had not done anything to get into shape since the last December  so I got up early and put on my running shoes and headed out for a run down the road. I took three steps and  stopped…and at that moment I knew that life that I loved was over. I walked back into the motel room with  everyone still sleeping, took off my shoes and wondered what was going to happen to me. Now it is over 55  years later. That old life was and is gone. Because that person is gone. And I had a new love in my life. When  we give ourselves to this Jesus of the Bible, we are told that we become a new person. And a new life has  begun. So, remember you are in one of two lives right now on your journey here on earth. You are in the  first…or the second. God wants you in the second. Enjoy the good memories of that old life, but remember  they belong to someone else. When you give that heart of yours to this Jesus, you are a new person, with a new  life and headed to a new destination. Embrace it, enjoy it and expect it to be a great adventure each day.
Because even if it doesn’t feel like it…it is. It is a journey that starts in one world and carries you over into a  new one that will last forever. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life  is gone; a new life has begun!
Remember I’m praying for you…
