emember I’m praying for you…
PI read a story the other day of a guy who was driving down from the summit of Mt. Haleakala on the island of Maui at night. I was pretty excited…because I’ve done that! My buddy Lee and I did a couple of “day hikes” through the volcano and we got out just as it was getting dark. This guy was telling how he drove up to the summit to see the sun set and realized that he was going to have to drive down some 10,000 feet down to sea level to get home. I remember being in that same parking lot and knew what he was facing. There is next to no light up at the summit parking lot and when you come in off the trail, it is great to take off your pack and get in the car and head out to the two lane road…and then you realize how dark it is and how many miles you are going to have to drive with your headlights shining only to the next bend in the road. But he saw what we saw…as soon as you hit the road…it all lights up! There are reflectors imbedded in the road to guide you in the dark of that winding road. They give you light…but those reflectors are useless without the headlights shining on them. The light they gave that author and me, and my buddy depended on the light from another source. Without that…it was total darkness. Jesus told his disciples that they and you and I are the light of the world. But we have no power in ourselves to bring the light of hope, direction and meaning to lives. God provides the light that is reflected from us. And God will use you and me and all who follow this Jesus to be reflectors of God’s light to a world of darkness. So be prepared to be the light of the world…but remember that it is light that comes from God himself. That means you and I need to be connected to let “our light” shine into the lives of the people that the God of the Bible loves so much. So stay close to the light and step into the world around you and let that light he gives shine bright with the hope the world longs for. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
2 Corinthians 4:6-7 NLT For God, who said, “Let there be light in the darkness,” has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. (7) We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.
