Daily Devotional #1,783

There is an old movie from the 1970’s that I still love to watch called “The Andromeda Strain”. The story is  about a secret space program that is designed to try to capture any “space germ” in outer space and return it to  earth so that it can be studied and then controlled and maybe even used. But the capsule with the “Andromeda  Strain” crashes off course in a very small New Mexico town and a person finds it and brings it to the local  doctor. The Doc doesn’t know what this thing is or what it is supposed to do and he opens it. The Air Force is  tracking the capsule and sends a team to the town to retrieve it, but when they get there, there are dead people  everywhere…and the two Air Force personnel die also. Scientists are sent to the town and see the death of so  many and bring the capsule back to a special place where they can study it and hopefully find a cure and destroy  this horrible agent. For an old movie, it really is fun to watch. But I got thinking about it the other night as I’m  watching how this “disease from another world” brings death to our world. And I realized that this is just like  what happened to our world with sin. In the movie the disease is impervious to human destruction and is only  destroyed by something that God provides. The Bible teaches that when Adam sinned, sin entered our  world…from somewhere else. And that sin…brought death for everyone and we are completely helpless to its  destruction. The Bible says that that sin of Adam caused death to rule over many. But greater than that disease  brought to our world, is God’s grace and his gift of righteousness. Like the scientists in “The Andromeda  Strain” we are victims to this disease that doesn’t belong here on earth…but there is nothing we can do. But the  good news is that God wonderful grace and gift of righteousness for all who will receive it…will win over this  disease. And we will not perish because of this disease called sin because of the death of one man, Jesus Christ.  There is a cure to this disease and it is found only in this Jesus who said he was “the way, the truth and the life  and that no one could come to the father except through him”. So remember, this disease isn’t a figment of an  old science fiction movie…it is real and will kill anyone who doesn’t get the cure…and the cure is this Jesus of  the Bible. Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Romans 5:17 NLT For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is  God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and  death through this one man, Jesus Christ.
Remember I’m praying for you…
