It was a foggy night, and the naval ship was cruising close to the coast, and the captain was notified that there was a light ahead…an oncoming vessel. The captain said “Signal by light the oncoming vessel to change course ten degrees to the east. The message was sent. Immediately a signal light came back, “Change your course ten degrees to the west. The captain instructed “Signal again…Change your course ten degrees to the east. This is the captain of the ship.” The light came back again and said, “Change your course ten degrees to the west, I am a Seaman Apprentice.” The captain was furious and he yelled “Signal again: Change your course ten degrees to the east, I am a United States Naval Warship.” Again, the signal came back “Change your course ten degrees to the west…I am a lighthouse!” Life can be hard and there are times when we really want to go our own way. And we get tired and weary from carrying the responsibilities and worries and stresses of our journey. If we will stop and listen to the signals that God will send us through his Bible and through his spirit poking our hearts, we can hear this Jesus of the Bible say, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” Let me change your course before you run aground on the rocks of life. He tells us that he will teach us and because he is humble and gentle with us, we will find rest for our souls. He promises us that his guiding hand is easy to respond to and if you keep company with him, you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. So often in our lives we tell God, “Ok God let’s go my way.” But God will always tell us “No…we are going to go my way. And the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy. And the load I give you is light.” Learn from him today and you’ll find rest for your soul. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
