I went to see an old friend today. He was in the hospital, and they said that there was no more they could do to restore him to health and so they were just making him comfortable. When I walked into the room, family members were there and he lay quietly in the bed. I greeted the family, and I said firmly, “Hi there Buddy!” He opened his eyes and said “Hey, it’s Pastor Joe!” We had a good talk, and the attendants were getting ready to do some work, so I read on last scripture to him. It was from the gospel of John…John 14:1-3 NLT “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. (2) There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? (3) When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.” When I was finished, he looked at me and just broke out in a big grin. My friend gave his heart to this Jesus late in his life and I got to baptize him and his wife in their living room. When he refers to this Jesus of the Bible now, it is always “his buddy” that is with him. We prayed and everyone was leaving the room and I grabbed his toe through the covers and said “I will see you again…” He broke out in a big grin and said “Yeah!” I don’t know if I will get to see him again on this earth, but from what I read in the Bible, I’m confident that I’ll see him and
“his buddy”. When everything is ready, he will come and get my friend…so that he will be with this Jesus, where he is…for always. That’s the promise that the Bible makes to us. Receive him and his forgiveness and his love…and it sounds like you don’t just go to heaven, but get a personal escort right into heaven. I will miss my friend. But I know that I will see him and so many others again. My friend waited pretty long to square things with God, but he didn’t wait too late. Don’t wait until it is too late…don’t let your heart be troubled…trust in him and know that you too have this “buddy” for all eternity. Here’s our Bible verse for today…

Remember I’m praying for you…
