There’s the story of a guy who was taking the Amtrack train across the southwest and just loving the desert scenery. When all that could be seen from the passenger car was sandy dirt, scrub brush and cactus, pretty much everyone else just pulled down the window covers to keep out the hot sun and cover the boring landscape. But this guy just kept looking out the window and seemed to be captivated by the bleak scenery. A guy sitting across the walkway leaned over and stated a conversation with the desert loving man. The curious man said after a few minutes, “If you don’t mind my asking, what is it about this desert that seems to give you some kind of pleasure as the miles go by?” The watcher said, “Well, I’m in the irrigation business and I keep looking at all this land thinking that if we could get water out here it would be a garden paradise!” This man was in the business of taking the desolate and unproductive land and transforming it to a blossoming, beautiful land. Everyone else just pulled down the window shades and said, “There’s nothing to see here.” Jesus is kind of like
that guy who was in the irrigation business. He saw people not only for what they were, but what they could become. This Jesus of the Bible wants us to see the people around us like he sees them. All of them are loved and valuable to him. But they don’t have to stay what they are, because God says that there is nothing that is impossible for him. He brings his living water to our dry and dusty hearts and minds and souls…and with his grace we can be transformed into a new creation, beautiful and even holy. So, as you travel through your part of the world this day, do look at the people taking this journey with you and ask God to let you see them as he does. Because anyone who belongs to Christ is transformed into a new person. The old life is gone and a new life begins. And it is a life that is filled with promise and potential and purpose. And no matter what you think of that person, remember the God you belong to says that with us…this whole thing is impossible. Not so with God, with God all things are possible. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
2 Corinthians 5:16-17 NLT So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! (17) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!
Remember I’m praying for you…
