Daily Devotional #1,797

The great baseball manager, Leo Durocher coached numbers of professional baseball players over his years in  Major League Baseball. A reporter asked him in one interview who his favorite of all of the players was for  him. Without hesitation he said “Dusty Rhodes”. That was kind of shocking because Dusty wasn’t one of the  all-time greats and mainly played as a pinch hitter…going to bat in place of someone else. The reporter asked  why he thought Dusty Rhodes was so special. Durocher said “When we had a tight game and I looked down  the bench for someone to pinch hit and get us out of trouble; some players would just look at the dugout floor or  look away. But every time Dusty Rodes would look me right in the eye, smile and tap on his bat. He was
always ready to play. There are times when it seems like God is looking down his bench of followers and is  looking for someone who is ready to respond to our heavenly manager and get into the game. The Bible tells us  that when we make our commitment to this Jesus of the Bible, we no longer live for ourselves. We are living  for Christ and when he has a position for us to fill, he is not looking for the ones who are focused elsewhere or  those who won’t meet his gaze on them. He is looking for players who are ready to jump in where our heavenly  manager knows we can do the job he calls us to. God is looking for those followers who want to get into the  game, to serve where they can and in a sense, bring home that winning run! Don’t feel bad if you are on the  bench right now, just listen for that voice that announces, you’re up to bat! And then…swing for the fence! The  good news is that our manager will be with you even when you swing that bat! Make yourself available to God  and see what he can do for you and through you. You do that and you’ll be one of his favorite players too!  Here’s our Bible verse for today…
2 Corinthians 5:15 NLT He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for  themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
Remember I’m praying for you…
