Every now and then Google sends me some pictures of my past in an email. I have no idea how they get them but I opened a recent file and there was a picture that I had taken while running my last marathon in San Diego
some years ago. The picture was of a guy who was running in front of me and I remembered why I had taken it. I was thinking, that guy sure looks old to me and if I stay behind him, he would probably collapse before me! Yeah, not very charitable, but I was looking for survival. I ran behind him and as I got closer, I saw all the states of the USA printed on the back of his shirt. One guy ran up next to him and he asked the guy if he had really done all the states. I was confused as to what they were talking about and the “old man” said “Oh no, I’ve only run marathons in about 35 of the states.” My thought was, I picked the wrong guy to pace me for 26 miles! I had looked at him and judged his age and figured he was the key to finishing the race. The funny thing was that when I looked at that picture the other day, I couldn’t believe how young the guy now looked to me! The Bible talks a lot about wisdom and the need for it. It says that wisdom should belong to the older folks. Well, that certainly isn’t always true. But the next verse in the book of Job says “But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his”. Wisdom is not just intelligence. It is understanding and insight and judgment. Getting older doesn’t make you wise by itself. But spending time with God and with his Bible can sure help to build real wisdom into your life. True wisdom is not a human thing, but a God thing. So spend time with the God who is loving and forgiving and powerful…and wise. And as you mature, that wisdom and understanding will rub off on you and your thinking and your heart. Here’s our Bible verse for today…
Job 12:12-13 NLT Wisdom belongs to the aged, and understanding to the old. (13) “But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.
Remember I’m praying for you…
